Profile

Born in Lagos, July 11 1963 of highly industrious parents, a graduate of University of Benin (painting) and Masters Holder in Fine Arts, Alex was only four years old when the Nigerian civil war broke out. Inevitably, the dire circumstances of the thirty months carnage had instilled a certain sense of thrift and parsimony as an insurance against starvation which must have robbed off on the young Alex and later played a crucial role in his artistic career.

Since 1980, he has taken to full time professional studio practice and has been exhibiting his works in Nigeria, United Kingdom and other countries. He is also involved in sculpture, ceramics, music, sewing and carpentry.

Notable among his experience is the US Ambassador’s prize for Artistic Achievement in Painting which he won in 1991.
