Joe Ugochukwu Amenechi was born on the 9th of January, 1961 in Lagos state, Nigeria. He attended Yaba College of Technology, Lagos where he obtained a higher National Diploma in Fine Arts in 1985. Joe was later employed at the Ovuomoro Art Gallery Bruce Onobrakpeya

Despite being a graduate of Yaba College of Technology which is known for emotive colourfulness of impressionist-expressionistic visualisations, he is now known for deep etching, metal foil and plasto-casting techniques adapted in imageries evoking pristine glories of past African lifestyles and traditions. This is a testament that his most rewarding tutelage years spent at the Bruce Onobrakpeya's workshop, garnered to him the appreciation and respect of the relevance of traditional creative means, materials and mythologies of African societies.
