Profile Okpu Eze (1934-1955), a native of Umnobiarla Isukwunato, Abia State, was one of the foremost contemporary Nigerian sculptors. On graduation from the Technical institute and Trade Centre, Enugu in 1955, he proceeded abroad for further art studies. His versatility as both an artist and a technical designer had seen him holding key positions in several art and technical establishments in Nigeria. A well exhibited artist at home and abroad, Eze’s works consistently engaged the ethnological consequence of the African socio-cultural milieux, as opposed to imposed western values.
