Profile

Uche Edochie studied art at the University of Nigeria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (painting major) in 1997. Edochie has organised exhibitions and artists gatherings and has had various critical essays and reviews written about him in the media. In 2000, he was specially commissioned to paint the portrait of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

In November 2004, Edochie represented the art community as a delegate at the Commission for Africa Conference in Dakar, Senegal. He was also one of the photographers that exhibited at the 5th Bamako Photography Biennale, Mali. He has served as a curator both for Masterstroke gallery in Jos from 1998- 1999, and for the exhibition Reflex at Sandton, South Africa in 2004. His writings have appeared in highly regarded journals, books and exhibition catalogues.

A versatile and innovative artist, he has had six solo shows and more than forty group exhibitions both locally and internationally.  His 3D mixed media paintings and his genre of journaling in his acclaimed series Digressions of an Artist remain some of the most unique creative efforts within the Nigerian art circle till date.
